About the work

Undercurrent is an audiovisual work developed from the sounds and memories of water. Using droplets, water surfaces, underwater recordings, and environmental sounds, the work transforms fluid movement, accumulation, and instability through sampling, sound design and audio processing.

The work also draws on memories of hospitalization. The unfamiliar medical environment, the continuous presence of mechanical sounds, and the vulnerability of losing control over the body gradually intersect with environmental changes that often remain unnoticed. These two seemingly separate experiences point toward conditions that persist beneath everyday perception.

Through sustained tones, pizzicato, friction, and shifting timbral gestures, the live cello enters the electronic texture, extending, interrupting, and reorganizing the existing sound materials. Sound-responsive visuals develop alongside the music, forming a fluid connection between water, body, and environment.
